help with electric brake kit on '04 f150
my new '04 f150 heritage came with a flat 4 and i need to wire it for a brake control and a round 7 plug. it has most of the wiring underneath near the tire near the rear of the truck. i have a round 7 cable without an end on it just 7 exposed wires and a brake kit. what is the easiest way to make it work? any help would be appreciated.

It would be easier and just about a "plug and play" deal if you just get the 7 pin plug and harness from Ford. Then all you have to do is unplug the existing flat four from the harness that goes to the front of the truck and then plug in the new one. Mount the 7 pin and it's done......
You will also need the additional fuses and a relay or two for under the hood fuse boxes. If you have the owners manual, it will show you the location of them. Basically I think it's a 30a one for the electric brakes. Another one for the lights and the relay is for the 12v charging and reverse lights if you have them on the trailer.
Other wise, you'll have to cut the existing four pin to get the lights, turn signals and brake lights AND splice into the harness to find the brake, 12v charge and the reverse light wire. Once you identify those, then you have to find a diagram with the "standard" wiring format for round 7 plugs.... All trailers follow a standard wiring plan so that you can plug into different trailers without having to change anything...
I don't have that info on hand, but a simple search of the internet should bring up something.....
I'd go for the Ford plug in myself.....
good luck!

thank you for taking the time and lending me a hand. i will go down to ford tomorrow and order one as they were out of stock today. so once i replace that with the new one, then all i have to do is add the brake control under the dash? all the rest is done? sorry if i sound ignorant but these are definitely unchartered waters for me.
