fuel milage F150vF250 5.4

My first time to this site. I have a 98 F150 4.6 with 216,000 miles.
My question is I sometime tow a horse trailer and I know I should have a F250 - so if I have a 5.4 (2003 or older) in a F250 how much of a fuel reduction will I have compared to a F150 5.4? What is the average fuel milage for a 5.4 in a F250?

Thanks!!

I had an '03 F250 reg cab 2wd w/ 3.73's. Basically the lightest of the bunch. I got 13mpg once empty on the hwy, must have been driving with the wind. I averaged 11-12 empty and 8-10 with a trailer. Granted, I don't have a light foot, but my buddy just bought an '04 and has the same results.

I would get a v-10. Actually, I'd get (got) a diesel, but if your going with a gasser, go for the v-10, the fuel can't be any worse.

The F250 though is a LOT more truck and will handle a trailer much, much better.

You're looking at probably a 2-3mpg reduction over the F150. While towing you'd be hard pressed to keep 9mpg. On the road its not going to be much over 10mpg. Now the new 5.4L might be a little better, but not by a whole lot. The fuel economy was one of the reasons why I traded in my 97 F150 in favor of the F250 PSD I have now. If you don't want to get the diesel I'd look at a V10. The V10 mileage won't really be all that much better, but it will have alot more power to pull the trailer than the 5.4L will. In a new truck its a $600 option. Also it will keep its resale value much better than a 5.4L will.

How is the booming metropolis of Nemaha these days? I went to Iowa State with a guy from Nemaha. Also went to ISU and worked at John Deere with a guy from Newell so I've been down in that area a couple of times.
