5th wheel with 4.2 5 speed

Im looking into getting a 5th wheel camper and want to know if anyone out there with the 4.2 has done any towing like that? The trailer I'm looking at has an axle weight of 3106 and hitch weight of 620. Its a smaller 5th wheel, just for me and my wife. Just want to know if anyone has had experience towing with the V6 and if it would be up to the task.

Thanks
Matt

Matt, I think you will be unhappy with the result.

If the truck can't be replaced with a proper tow vehicle then consider getting something like a pop-up.

Even if you have the 3:55 gear, the recommended towing limit is 3600 lbs.

You will be pulling off the lot with 3726, without your wife or even a can of soup.

My father had a V6 with the Auto, as soon as he got a trailer he had to move up and ended up with a V10.

I have to agree...you'll be sorry if you don't upgrade.

I can't think of the last time I've seen a 5th wheel installed in a half ton pickup. I learned the hard way, it's not so much getting the load moving, it's keeping it under control.

Its never a good idea to exceed manufacturers recommondations. If you dont go over the GVWR, GCWR, and max towing capacity, you should be ok, but it looks like you will be close or over.

You could always try it out on a short unpopulated stretch of road and then you will determine if it is feasible....
