Question Ball Mount Question?

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone could make this easy for me. I just got a 2002 FX4 lariat and a used 18' stratos bass boat, now all i need is a ball Mount to stick in the hitch thing but i don't know if i need a 1" drop, 2" drop or what! i know i want the trailer as level as can be for towing (at least that's what my friend told me) but i was hoping someone here had the same kind of set up! Anyway that's it, the truck is not lifted or dropped if that helps! o'yeah the tires are 265/70/17

thanks

Get the trailer level and measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. Now, measure from the ground to the bottom of your receiver and the difference will be the drop you'll need.

My guess is that a 2" drop will work fine for you, without knowing anything about your trailer.....

Good luck!

Here's another tip. First, insert the ball into the coupler. After leveling, measure from the bottom shoulder of the ball to the ground.

Here, it is 14.5 inches:

Measure the receiver height

Here, it is 16 inches.

Subtract 14.5 from 16. That's the rise/drop.
Then figure a fudge factor for tongue weight.

I use a 2"drop on this trailer with maybe 50 pounds of tongue weight, not perfectly level, but close enough for my needs.

You could always get an adjustable ball mount and tweak it until you like it.

That's what I did, worth the $50 to me.

I love my adjustable mount. I also have a Convert A Ball so I have a lot of flexability with what i can tow.
