Code for towing capacity

I'm going to look at a '99 F150 S/C 4WD with the 4.6L.

What would be the code to look for in determining it's towing capacity? Since it has the little Triton, my guess is that it does not have the 7,770 package. However, I would still like to know the towing capacity for the truck.

Also, I would like to identify the rear end ratio. Is there a code for that as well?

Okay, now I see the sticky at the top. I actually did a search and hit nada.

If I read the chart right, the ONLY gear that could have come with this combo is 3:55, and the capacity can be determined by the tire diameter. With 16" wheels it's 6,600 and drops to 6,100 with the 17" wheels.

I think.

Remember, that's a "max" tow figure too. It's assuming you have a zero optioned truck and actually weighs the same as the initial "curb weight" of the truck. For every pound you are over this curb weight, you have to subtract a pound from that max tow figure too.

It's the GVWR and the GCWR that really matter (there is GAWR too). The GVWR and GAWR should be listed on the door jamb sticker and the Axle code should be there too. It'll be something like "19" = 3.55 open diff or "H9" = 3.55 LS diff.

I think the GCWR will be in the #11,000 - #11500 range. I'll bet the GVWR is #6050, but could be #6250 too.

So, if your truck weighs #6000 fully loaded (including the tongue weight of the trailer), your trailer can weigh #5000 - #5500.

Anyway, hope that helps some.

Good Luck!
