towing an rv

I'm considering the purchase of a 1995-6 f150 supercab. After looking at some of the q&a's I thought it would be wise to get a little more educated. #1 Why is an automatic transmission superior to a manual transmission for towing? #2 I'll be towing a 3000 lb trailer with kids and equipment. What would be the best engine, transmission, and rear end to have in place to suit my needs?

I once had a 96 SC and had no problems at all with it. They rate the automatic tranny higher because of the problems people have starting out and starting on hills. I would look for one with a 5.8 with the towing package, and you should have no problem with the load your talking about.
