2013 Sync2 update problem - Canadian version

I recently purchased a 2013 FX4 with Sync and would like to perform an update. The truck was originally sold in Canada which I'm learning may be my issue. When I log in to the Ford owners site it says my SYNC is up to date.

It reports SYNC2 v3.5, installed on July 30, 2013. Obviously this was the original version and is far from the latest and greatest. It also will not allow me to run a Vehicle Health Report. My googling tells me that is because it was a Canadian truck. Do I have a work around? Can I manually update the Sync somehow?

Yes. OMG yes you can and should.

Do you have a windows laptop, a ODB2 blue tooth adapter, a USB stick with at least 16gb of storage (otherwise empty), and a little over an hour of time?

I had the same problem. I just purchased a 2013 F150 Limited that was originally sold in Canada. I contacted ford on the Ford Owners site and was told that I couldn't get a sync account or vehicle history report. They told me that the latest sync update could be done under Ford's Field Service Action 12M02. This can be done up to 5 years after the original sale of the vehicle and doesn't have to be the original owner. I had mine done a couple of weeks ago and it was no problem. It takes about 2 hours to update.

Did it end up costing you anything to have Ford fix it?

Not a thing because it was still within the 5 years from original date of sale.

Yeah. If you can have Ford do it for free, then I'd do that. If you can't let me know.

Thanks for the info. HMBREW069, did you just go to your local Ford dealer and reference 12M02?
