Why is the 6.2 worth $3K over the 5.4?
Seems that the 6.2 adds about 80hp but just a marginal bit more torque. What makes the 6.2 worth the extra $3K over the 5.4? Is there considerable technology for longevity, reliability, economy, or is it just the extra HP?
I'm not planning on racing or jumping the Raptor, it's the suspension compliance and durability that I'm after, as I'll be driving it a lot on gravel roads with lots of correlated surfaces. This will allow a greater speed while not being thrashed about in the cabin. I'd actually prefer the eco boost turbo V6 for the expected better fuel economy (fuel range is the key with far distances between fuel stations requiring me to take along a several 5 gal fuel cans on some trips).
I'd imagine resale value would be much better with the 6.2, which is the current main reason for me choosing that engine option (will likely sell in a few years), but I would like to know the reasons why it's so desirable (if it's HP alone, then I may just as well get the 5.4).
Any comments, opinions, facts etc is all welcome.
Thanks, Mark

Well 6.2 is bigger displacement so it be able to reach higher top speeds then the 5.4 and hold it pretty well. The extra power will help that factor out. so it be able to do 0 to 60 times a little quicker. The 5.4 to some feel a little weak so the 6.2 should fix that also. If i was you i would go for it. Suppose to get better fuel economy then the 5.4 also. But thats just a rumor lol
its more then 80hp. its about 111hp. the 5.4 makes 300hp or 320hp on E85. The 6.2 makes 411hp on 87octane. Sure the torque increase may not be large but thats only PEAK torque. Im sure the 6.2 holds higher torque numbers longer then the 5.4. Also dont forget the Raptor R ran in BAJA made over 500HP WITHOUT boost.
I know they are different engines, and different levels of truck, but a buddy of mine has had both a Chevy 2500 and 2500HD with the 6.0 and I know his gas mileage utterly stinks... along the lines of 9-11 MPG regularly.
Ford engineers have said the 6.2 will get slightly better gas mileage then the 5.4, and much more then the V10.
The 6.2 is a much better designed engine then the 5.4, and it look as they come with FORGED rods. That means 600-700rwhp potential out of a stock shortblock.
The 6.2 you can bet is either WAY underrated, or way under-tuned. I would not be surprised one bit if a bolt on/tune 6.2 raptor does over 400rwhp.
The new 5.0 and 6.2 engines are a completely new design and simply will stomp all over the 4.6 and 5.4 as you will see them discontinued in the product line within a few years.
There has been a 7.0L version of the 6.2 in testing for a few years now making 700hp and winding out 7000rpm n/a...

only in the Raptor and 2011 Superduty officially. Buts it will be making its way into the regular F150 as well. If their claim of more horespower AND better fuel economy is true it would be plain stupid to keep the 5.4 going.
Anyone driven one?
