Four Wheeler Magazine Named Power Wagon 2010 Pickup of the Year over SVT Raptor!!!
Can you believe that crap, they tested a power wagon, Raptor, Ram 2500 and a Toyota Tundra, They gave it to the Power wagon and the Raptor got second
i know what i will be using as a fish wrap now
i know what i will be using as a fish wrap now
I can believe it for many reasons....
The Raptor was basically designed as an off road racer.
When I and I'm guessing I speak for a large majority think of the object "pick up truck" I think of a vehicle that has 4WD, can tow, be used on and off road, has a nice payload, nice towing numbers, copious amounts of bed room and copious amounts of leg room/interior space.
The Raptor doesn't have much bed space, doesn't have much payload, and is a niche vehicle to fill a niche consumer group. How many people are going to use the Raptor the same way the 2010 Power Wagon will be used?
I understand their reasoning. Now if you want to go for a Baddest Truck of the Century then by all means the Raptor will win every time.
Don't be a fan boy....the Power Wagon seems to be a great truck and the Raptor is too. But all around the Power Wagon has it beat imho.

i would disagree, and trust me, im far from a fan boy, and i if the truck is or was better, i would say it. I also do realize there will be something to top the raptor here soon..but this isnt it for many reasons.
for one, the PW looks like something out of the late 80's, looks gaudy and the decals look tacky and the overall appearance is not appealing or ground breaking.
now for performance, the truck weighs nearly 7K pounds, yes it tows more, as it should considering its size, however, its not going to be a better performer with its size and weight, second the down hill decent mode on the raptor is something the PW doesnt have and its suspension doesnt even come close. yes i know, it has front and rear diff lockers...but can it perform at the same speeds or does it have the capabilities of offroad mode? or have the options to turn off all the TC and Roll control ect...? no....
they rated it better cause it has a 12K pound winch and a front diff locker...no...not something that will make or break my decision. JMHO.

the raptor and power wagon are 2 completely different animals. the raptor is more of a high speed desert racer. the power wagon with is solid front axle, high ground clearance and factory winch, electronic sway bar disconnects makes it a better machine for large tires and mudbogging/rockcrawling which is most likely why they picked it.

well it can also be used as a daily driver
. As for a rock crawler or mud machine...not a chance.

I can come up with a list of what the raptor has and what the PW doesnt...more so than what the PW has over the raptor...but whatever...personal opinion i guess...i guess you wouldnt know, nor would i until i drive a PW..as i already hit a ton of different trails with my raptor, to include sand dunes in CO and offroad terrain, snow, mud, and so on...
take it as you want, but to say its ONLY made for desert racing, thats a FALSE statement. and i know this from personal experience.
and the PW cant be used as a desert racer, wont even come close to it...but could it go there? sure, same thing with the raptor, i have hit trails out here in wyoming that are no where NEAR desert racing...and it does it very well.

um wow....im not disagreeing with you. my opinion was based off of what 4wheeler magazine looks at as a 4x4. Not which truck is better. Id take the Raptor over a Power Wagon anyday...all im saying is flip through the pages of this magazine and tell me what kind of vehicles you see most. Long travel IFS setups or Big tired Solid axle Mud bog Rock crawlers. Im saying their vote is just biased, and not a true comparison cause each truck is truely in a differnt class

i dont think they are too far apart to compare, besides one of the trucks are a 3/4 ton and the other isnt. thats different for sure, but their applications arent too much different from one another.
Four Wheeler sucks that's why I read Petersen's Four Wheel And Off Road, from what I recall they named the '10 Raptor their "Truck of the Year". From what I have seen in "Off Road" they used to put aprox how much $$$ one spent on a 4x4 rather than how capable it is offroad. IMO was a big turnoff I don't care how much it cost I wanna know how good it works.
An IFS truck with a big fat sway bar is what will hurt the raptors off road performance. the front suspension is not able to flex like a solid axle with sway bar disconnects. This was probably a major factor in the magazines decision. im NOT saying you cant do it in a Raptor, but the Raptor shines in different areas...and not the areas that magazine focuses on in most of its pages.
