Question Clunnk through steering wheel when braking

My '98 F250LD clunks through the steering wheel when I brake hard. I've taken it into a suspension shop and they can't find what's causing it. They say nothing's loose or worn out. They even speculated that I could have a broken frame! (??). In any case, I plan to take it into Ford as I have an extended warranty still in place. Can anyone speculate as to what might be causing this clunk?

loose lug nuts
loose shock top and/or bottom mounting bolts
cupped tires, do you rotate?
caliper sticking
broken/warped rotor

just a few thoughts.

lower steering shafts are fairly common on the 150,s. I would try that first and it will probably cure it. one bolt at the steering gear and one at the coupler under the dash and press the rubber boot through the firewall
