Leaf Spring Question

Hello, all.

I don't know squat about suspensions!

I was under my truck and noticed that the left leaf spring was not stacked straight. The top bar was off-centered. Is this a problem?
I know the leaf springs flex, but what about side to side?

should I have it checked by teh dealer?

thx

I have heard from some people that they are suppose to be straight, but i know the ones on my truck arent perfect either. My advice to you if you are really worried about it call a suspension specialist or maybe a 4x4 shop and ask them. If you bring it to a dealer they might say its fine just cause they dont want to work on it. You never know.

Thanks for the responce. I think I'll keep an eye on it...if it gets worse, my truck is still under warrenty, so I'll have the ford dudes and dudettes take a look at it.
I park my truck with one side on the curb at night, maybe this has something to do with it--I'll have to check my father's f-150 and see if he has the same thing!

Thanks again!

leaf springs

I just noticed that the top spring on each side of my truck sits a little ****eyed too. My truck has 70,000 miles (1997 Super Crew).

I am interested in any comments as well. I don't notive anything with how the truck handles.

Spoke to my mechanic today and he said, just hit them back into place with a rubber mallet. He says that either way it isn't a problem... they will stay in place due to the bolts. I just looked under my father's 97 f-150 and he has the same out-of-alignment look. He has over 160,000mi. on his truck. Even though this puts me at easy, I still will keep an eye on it.

any suggestions or imput welcome.

Thanks!

I think there is a recall or TSB on the spring packs, check the search area or call a dealer. It dealt with realigning them and adding extra straps to hold them in place. The whole ordeal was that the springs could twist and puncture the gas tank.
Mine are not perfect but I am not to worried about it. If you wanna fix it, you will need to lift the truck and loosen the spring pack bolts up and pound the springs back into place and retighten the clamps. I couldn't budge mine with a sledge hammer while still on the ground and tightened down.

Ky~

I'll check that out...I'm taking her in on the 11th, so I'll ask the dealer when there.

Thanks.
