Cool shock question ?

hey everone, i have a 2002 supercrew 4x4. my question is why do i have two places i can mount a rear shock on the right rear side of the truck. one is in front of the rear end and the other is behind. if i wanted to put the shock on the rear mount would that change anything in the ride. any help would be great.

thanks, steve

No expert here, but I would think that the front mounted factory setting has a purpose, like offsetting torque or something. Just my $.02.

The right side front mounted shock is to control wheel hop. You can swap your shock over if you want and you'll never notice a thing. Will not change the ride. Mine came from the factory with the shock in front.

my friend and i both have '02 fx4's, but he has the supercab and his shocks are facing the same way. i have the supercrew, and the shocks are staggered. i cannot tell the difference except i do notice that mine sits about an inch higher than his, but this could be the way he treats his truck also.

Hey, come to think of it, that does seem to be the trend now that I think about it. I have actually been looking at other trucks anyways because my SCrew came like that but my dad's '01 supercab has both shocks on the back but it has the bracket like mine and the top mounting location so that it could be mounted either way. Wonder if it's got something to do with the body or weight difference between the two trucks?????????
