New 4x4 Owner With Question???
I have a 2002 F-150 4X4 FX4 5.4L. I'ts my first 4X4. I mainly bought the truck because of it's height and the good looks. I'm not saying I won't be going 4wheeling, just not too often.
My question is this, because I won't be 4wheeling that much, should I drive in 4X4 at times to keep the system in good working order. I've been told by some that I should.

IMHO, It is a good ideal to put it into 4X4. By doing this it will lub the gears in the transfer case and will keep the gears free
I do it at least once a month if it hasn't been in 4X4 recently. I'll just through it in 4X4 driving straight on a paved road.

I just have to chime in here - thanks for asking the question and for the tips . . . I don't off road, only use 4WD in the snow . . . never thought to keep the gears lubed . . . !

I do it every now and then on pavement, but only going straight and not over 40 mph. Do it mostly when stuck in traffic .(nothing else to do) It keeps the solenoids working properly too.
I'll stick it in low every now and then and go back and forth in the driveway. You don't want to turn the wheels much in either case.

I live in the SoCal desert and we actually have soft dirt roads that will literally run for miles. I'll hit these roads and switch it in a drive like 50mph in 4wd for several miles, then stop and play with low range a little bit, then back to high and haul *** again. Every now and then in the right spot you can find that soft stuff that you actually need 4wd to get through. That's fun. And it's 1000 times easier to clean up than mud. I like finding the soft stuff and trying to drive through it in 2wd until I get stuck and then switch it over and watch those BFG Mud T/A's work there magic. (that's gonna bite me in the a$$ one of these days, he he he)
