Shock Install

Did a search, it turned up almost nothing. I have four new Ranchos for install, I remember some folks had some install tips (2 19mm wrenches??).
Anyway, I have power tools and a basic open end wrench set/socket set. Any tips, warnings, special tools needed?
Thanks

Thumbs up

Linetest,

I just installed 4 RS 9000's about a month ago. It was very easy except the removal of the left rear factory shock. The undercarriage frame and spare make it hard to get a wrench on the upper nut of the shock. If you don't put a wrench on it, the cylinder rod rotates and with the nut.

Suggets you lower the spare to get an arm above the framing.

I think I had to use an 18mm wrench somewhere. Odd size because I remember not having a box or open end of this size. The Craftsmen ratchet is 17mm on one end and 19mm on the other...go figure.

Anyway, I did all four by myself in about an hour and 1 beer later.

Remember not to flatten the bushings too much. I also double nutted the upper rod nuts and checked them after a few days to see if they were ok.

Good luck, I know you'll like the ride.

Thanks! I think that was the post I had in mind. Did you have to take any of the wheels off? Or, were no able to do the job with them on?

Thanks!~

Doh! One more question....do you need to raise vehicle off the ground to install, or can it sit as is? Don't know if the shock simply "Drops" out or what.

Thanks again.

No problem! I was able to do the install on my F250 with it sitting on the ground on all four tires. It was really a piece of cake. Can't wait 'til my RS9000s come in for the new truck and I have to do it again!
