Stock tires and changes to suspension

Ihave a brand new 2002 F150 truck, a month old. It's got the stock P275/60R17 tires that come with the 4x2 XLT sport package. I also have the 3.55 (no LS ...) axle ratio. My truck seem to have a bigger stance compared to other trucks. Did they have to add a factory lift to fit the bigger tires? I found a chart on Tire Rack (go here to see it) that told me my tires were 30" tall. I'm not sure if that's big/small or what. What would the factory have done, if anything, to make the tires fit?
Also, I'm thinking I would like to lift the back a little bit, to give it a more forward stance. Any suggestions/ideas/don't do its from the suspension crowd?

Tim

EDIT: Left out a word, sorry

Put a block in the rear end, between the axle and the springs. Cheap, easy, and there's nothing wrong w/ doing it, as long as you don't got too much, i wouldn't go more than an inch or two. You'll need to get new U-bolts if you put a block in, but.. all this shouldn't cost too much.
