my fx4 sit pretty high as it is. I went to the tires store other day. they said i can put 35" tires with just a 3" body lift is this possible?

This is possible but....I will warn you, you will have to do a little trimming on the front valence. Also, if you do any serious offroading and get a lot of flex, the back will rub... Check out the attached picture and you'll see what I mean. If you're not doing stuff like that. I wouldn't worry about anything. Oh and you may want to crank your torsion bars a little to avoid rubbing at full turn under compression.

i have a 3 inch pa lift on my 97 with 35 inch tires. it looks really good but i did trim part of the lower valance under the bumper. i dont do alot of serious offroading so i dont have to worry about rubbing.

 

I have a 3" body and 35s on the stock wheels and it didn't require any trimming but I rub the frame very slightly on full lock of the steering. I never rub when offroading besides the full lock.

I think there is a fine line between what wheels we can use on our rides with a 3" body. The stock 7.5s are just a little too skinny and the offset is slightly too small and cause rubbing on the frame. However the 10" rims seem to jut out too far and thus contact the valence at times. I think a regular old 8" aftermarket wheel would be the best for this setup personally. However I went for the cheaper approach and kept my stock wheels and lived with the slight frame rub. Besides in my opinion I think the 17" lariat wheels are the nicest rims I have ever seen on a F-150.

i went with the ar baja wheels 16x8. they worked out really good,but i kept the 17 inch off road wheels in case i ever want to use them again

 

I just installed 35 bfg muds on my 98 orp with a 3 inch body lift. I kept the stock 17 inch wheels because of their good looks. It did require some trimming of the front valence and the inside of my front mud flaps. I am very pleased with the results.

You can get 35 but i would go with the 315s

My friend has a 1997 with 35" tires, stock 17" wheels and no lift. He adjusted the torsion bars just enough to level the truck and did trim the front most plastic. He has the stepside bed and it only rubs the slightest amount at full compression. Whenever I tell people this they say it's BS - I've got pictures to prove it if any there are any doubters out there.

 

It's better to lift and not over preloading so much the torsions.

Then again, there's so many ways to do it.

 

Just needed to trim the front valance and it was all good!
