Exclamation air ride

yeah.....i wen't to the shop yesturday and they had a set in there for a ford f150 73-01 for the rear and it looks pretty cool . I'm gonna buy a set for the rear to level out the sag from my lift and when i got my bike in the back! I think they were some where around $190 but it's an extra $150 for the guages to adjust it from in the cab!

My 1990 F250 has Firestone's Ride-Rite bags in the rear. I love them to death so I went to order them for my 2002 Screw. Unfortunately they only show you can get them for 1963-2002 F250s and F350s, as well as 1963-1996 F150s.

Why the difference as of 1997? Evidently the F150 rear frame is slightly different and about 1 1/2" closer to the tires. Thus there's only 7 5/8" clearance (I just measured on my truck) and Firestone bags are 7 1/2" wide. That leaves 1/8" between the bags and the tire. Clearly a bad idea.

I'm saddened because I love these Firestone bags. But I guess it's time to find another brand.

No one makes the bellows type air bag for 97-2002 F-150's. The only ones are the tube type called sport bags. They have a 2,000 lb capacity. I have them on mine. They mount behind the axle plate on the leaf spring, but I modified mine to fit on the plate. They are taller than the bellows type so I take them off during the winter due to the 5 psi min pressure required raising the rear a 1/4 inch. With my camper on, my truck sits level without the bags, but if I pump them to the full 100 psi, it'll raise the rear about 1 1/2 inches. I have the bags for the extra stability with the camper on and/or for leveling the truck with the hitch step/bike rack combo with bikes as they sag the rear a little. I had the bellows type on my 93 F-150 and wish they were available. I'm planning on getting rid of the stock spring spacer and make a new bump stop which will level the truck unladen and use the bags to level with camper.
