Fair price? Good question
Well, I had a 1995 xl 4x4, dark green with the great straight 6. The differences are that I had a manual transmission and only 66,000 mi. I later added polk speakers, 6cd changer, leather seats, bed liner, K&N FIPK, and I only used synthetic oils. I was going to get a price of approx. $9000 for it in exc. cond. and with a brand new black aluminum cap that cost $1000. But that deal fell through shortly after ordering my new truck
After I had strangled the moron that welched on the deal because his Grandma and Grandpa didn't want to give him the loan, I then decided to do the trade-in instead. The salesman first wanted to give me $5500 for it as is - wholesale value. I laughed my but off. Oh, and I also had 6 months left on the ESP that I had since I bought the truck new in '95, which came in VERY useful with that particular vehicle. So I haggled until we finally came to $7100 for the trade-in. I then took the cap off that night to sell later on. That value was still looked at as wholesale. And since I didn't think I could do anything with the other parts I had put in, I let Ford have them. I later found this was not the case and to never give a dealership anything beyond stock.
But I would say that price sounds a little low. Maybe by $500 to $1000 too low. Perhaps KBB looks at wholesale value as well. With the way the auto industry is now that is, unfortunately, the trend. Since Sept. 11, a lot of seemingly stable marketplaces have gone wacky. On the other end, you should be able to get a killer deal on that stang!
I hope this lengthy explanation has assisted you in some way. I loved that straight 6, really miss the low end torque and indestructability. But the 5.4 liter in my 2001 F250 4x4 ain't too bad. Nothing like a V8 under your foot!

thanks a heap!!!!
im not sure how true this is, but since the whole 0% deals that went on that resale value droped because the "value" went down on new vehicles. not positive but it was what i was told when all that 0% was going on. and it kinda makes sence
