Do you get blown around on the highway?

I've got 4500 miles on my new 2001 4x4 SCrew.... and I love it!
But..... when I am going down the highway at a good cruising speed and the wind is blowing hard from the side, I have to counter-steer to keep it going straight. Sometimes I am even getting blown all over the road.
I have thought about checking tire preasure and tightening the torsion bars. Also do they make a steering stabelizer for these IFS systems? would this help?
Anyone else out here with this problem?
Thanks,
Cap

me too

Big High Truck + High Winds= Truck blowing side to side.

I dont believe there is anything that can be done... just drive a little slower.

I traded in a 99 F250 Crewcab 4X4 PSD for this truck. Now THAT was a big heavy truck!
But it didn't wander over the road in high winds like this one does. Maybe after a certain point the weight counteracts the wind velocity?

Thumbs up

Get a rear anti-sway bar, that will help some. My truck gets blown around a little, but nowhere near as bad as some vehicles I've owned. Of course a 4x4 has a little more room under it to catch the wind.,,,,98

Wind

Try this, grab the corner of the bed and tailgate on the top rail and shake the truck, pushing at a 90 degree to the side of the truck. The sidewalls on the tires will flex back and forth and that is what happens when the wind pushes on the truck, but according to the winds pattern. Even with the steering straight the flexing will drive the truck all over the road. The steering stabilizer can not stop this. Tires with less pliable sidewalls can help or larger wheels will replace flexible sidewall. Or with-stand the force of the wind with weight. A bed full of rocks, and throw a couple in the cab for better distribution.

True dat. After I put on my winter wheels and rims (255/70 R16) my truck floats all over the road when compared to the HD wheels(275/45 R20). But the ride is much better with that extra rubber between the rim and pavement. I think the rear sway bar or an active suspension system (i.e. Roadmaster) for the rear would be an invaluable upgrade. For those that have either list the brand and your opinion.

The anti-sway bars DO help; it's obvious. I did both; each stiffened things up when trucks go by or high wind.

This is my first truck and I can't say it gets blown around anymore than any of my cars I had before this truck a strong cross wind will make anything going down the highway blow around a little bit.

Trucks always get blown around more than a car. It's a size thing. But with stiffer shocks, 10 inch wheels and 275/70/16 tires, my expy is much more stable in the wind.

Good luck.
