leaf spring shackle nut missing

i was looking at my exaust the other day cause the tip came loose, and i saw that there was a nut missing on the bolt holding the right rear leaf springs in the shackle,i now have the replacement nut,but i was wondering if anyone else has heard of this happening.when i took it to the ford dealership i had a technician come out so i could show him exactly what i needed he looked at me and said how the hell did you do that? so i'm guessin it's not very common,i'd hope not anyway.

Nice answer, Ford tech!

More than likely, unless you've had the suspension worked on, it may have never been installed at the factory and it slipped by QA. I find it humorous that the guy turns it around as something YOU did. Like you'd purposely take a nut off the suspension just to see what would happen...

Sheesh!

It was probably left off at the factory because the put those suckers on tight and usually use some sort of thread locker. The weight of the truck probably held the bolt in there. Would have been no big deal though if it feel out. I heard a clunk one day and didn't realize until 2 days later that i snapped a shackle in half and the spring was up against the bed

When I was installing BellTech's drop kit, one of the nuts on the rear shackle came off very easily. It wasn't torqued at all. Had I driven it around for several thousand miles I'd probably have lost the nut also. They're easy enough to access, check, and tighten with hand tools, which I'd recommend to everyone.

i figured it had never been put on.it took me 5 minutes just to put the nut on,i could only turn it 1/4 each time and it was hard to get the wrench on,never found one that fit right.and my exhaust tips didn't help.

Same thing happened to me

2001 SCrew Lariat 4x4. Rotating tires today when I noticed the right rear leaf spring shackle nut missing. Don't know how this could have ever rattled off because of the stop bar attached to the nut. The bolt came out of the end with the nut missing but luckilly didn't come off completely.

Mine is missing on my 97 I kept hearing a noise from the rear end after looking at it the nut was gone and the shackle was out of line and one spring was starting to push out. I need to redo my suspension anyways so figured I will be replacing it. But I was shocked to see it missing.
