i hate wheel hop!!!
i hate wheel hop!!!
how can i minimize wheel hop in my truck? i have a stock suspension with 3" body lift and rancho rs5000 shocks. i posted this question on another website and someone recommended traction bars. what else can i do to eliminate wheel hop? please help! thanks...
would my pinion angle change from stock even though i have a body lift (stock suspension)? also, what are cal-tracks? someone in another board suggested the rancho trac-bars, has anyone used these before? thanks for the help!
welcome to the problems that soccer moms driving trucks bring! soft ride results in lower load hauling/handling capabilities and wheel hop!
The ranchos are nice, but you sacrafice a LOT of ground clearance. On my ranger that was modified, I put some James Duff bars that go on top of the leaf springs. what a difference! They were only like $50. I now that JC whitney carries about the same item for the older F150s.

actually, last week i had 8 car batteries in the bed of my truck and with all that weight my wheels were always planted. thats when i found out how much better it is to drive with the wheels planted on the ground! but i want to find a solution that will let me keep my bed empty. ive also heard a lot about the ranchos robbing ground clearance, thats why im looking for an alternative to them, but if thats all i can find then im gonna go with them.

well now 2 different people on another board told me that they tried the jcwhitney ones and they only slightly improved wheel hop, barely noticeable. both swapped them for the ranchos and they are both very happy with the ranchos. i think im gonna go for the rancho's then, because i want to do it right the first time. i guess you get what you pay for!
edelbrocks
for what it's worth, I had rancho's on my old truck and they did'nt help the whel bounce much at all (rs5000) I've also heard not so good responses about the 9000's
I bolted on a set of Edelbrocks and it stopped my wheel hop. My truck handles around corners much better as well.. they are more expensive than the 5000's but worth it

I just know this worked for me. I added a set of Hellwig Overload springs so I can actually haul something without hitting the bump stops. They not only help the sagging when loaded, but have stopped the wheel hop I had. They also stopped the "clunk" noise I had from the leaf springs too. It made the ride a bit firmer, but I like that too. Handles better, at least for a truck!
They cost around $150, but are worth every penny to me.

The other thing you might want to look into is the Roadmaster active suspension. http://www.activesuspension.com/. They cost a little more than traction bars or helper springs but I haven't heard anything bad about them. They help with wheelhop and controling loads. I'm planning on getting a set by next spring. I have the newest JCW catalog and they have the lowest price for them I've seen.
