Replacing ball joints- can't remove axle on '99 4WD, HELP!

So I am rebuilding the front of my '99 which has 150k on it. I got the driver side done, but am stuck on the right side. I have the axle nut off and everything else loosened up but can't budge the axle within the hub. There is a divot in the center of the axle and I have put the round end of a ball peen hammer in that and smacked it with another hammer. I sprayed it with WD40 but I don't know how much is penetrating. I tried to wiggle the spindle around and get it off the lower ball joint, but it won't come off with the axle there.

Can anyone help me out here? Just keep banging on it until it comes off? Another idea to get things apart without removing the axle? Anything?

If you have access to a torch, heat can make getting the lowers out a lot easier.

Well, BFH saved the day. Unfortunately I damaged the threads so a new axle got added to the job. I guess a 150k mile CV joint had a long run.
