Loud hum after level kit install
Loud hum after level kit install
I have a couple of questions reguarding my leveling kit install.
I have a 2005 f150 KR 4x2 that i added a 2.5" leveling kit to. I have also gotten it aligned since then. I've noticed that when i am veering to the right while driving, there is a loud hum that can be heard in the cab. It doesn't do this when i am driving straight or going left. It has made this noise since I had the stock tires and since ive upgraded to 33's.
I think it may be a control arm, bushing or tie-rod issue, but i could be completly wrong (I have no experience with trucks, I am from the mustang world)
any help or ideas to point me in the right direction would be appreciated!
Also I was wondering if there was a way to get the look of a leveled 4x4 with my truck. I dont want to get a huge lift, because i want to keep my 33's.

Could be a wheel bearing or something like that as well. Tie rods and ball joints are more popping and loud squeaking sounds.
As for a leveled 4x4 unfortunately I don't think they make 4" lifts for your truck so it really only leaves you with adding a body lift (pretty expensive install) or going with a 6" lift.

No way to get it to leveled 4x4 height, cause we'd need a 4" lift for that. I have 2" added front and back to my 2wd 06, so that it looks like a stock 4x4, and that's as good as it's gonna get. If you want to drop more money than a lift costs, you can get 3" coilovers and new UCAs to get to 4x4 +1", but I feel like that's a waste of money unless you want the bling or offroad a ton.
For you suspension stuff, no idea. Probably not directly related to the level, just exacerbated by the bad angles it causes on the front end.

thanks for the help guys! im going to look into the humming issue more.
how would a 6 inch lift look with 33's? i've always thought it wasn't enough tire for the height, but i might need to look into some pics to decide. do you know of any members that have this this set-up that i could see or ask about?
thanks in advance

I'm in the same boat wanting to know how that would look. It all depends on tire width and wheel diameter. Most important thing is that our 2WDs on 6" look like a 4x4 with 4", so it's not as goofy. Full size 12.5" wide 33s look fine, small but good enough, on 17 and 18" wheels. Googling "f150 4" lift 33s" and stuff like that will have some things pop up.
I've got thin 33s on 20s and plan on putting a 6" on mine this summer. I'm definitely getting new wheels and tires at some point, but preparing for there to be a time gap if tires are back-ordered or something like that. Plus I want to wear these current tires as much as I can. I think mine'll look pretty weird though.

i have 295/70/17(33x12.5) Nitto Trail Grapplers on a 17x8.5 rim right now with a 2.5" level kit. it looks clean, but i just want that extra 3-5 inches i imagined in my head when i did this... all the pics i see online are either 4x4's with a leveling kit or 4x2 trucks with the 6" lift and 35's... i just cant picture how 33's would look with that set-up
I think those might actually look alright. Nittos run big and they're a MT. They're 33.25x11.6" on paper, but I bet they're around 33.75" and 12+", plus you've got the smaller wheel, so the tires look bigger. Width is covered and the height is solid.
I agree it's hard to find pics of it though, cause believe me, I've looked!

well i found the source of the problem.... it was the hub bearings (pizzaman was right).
just under $400 for parts and labor and it rides like a dream now.
the steering feels lighter and it is just a more around enjoyable ride. thanks for yalls help and hopefully this thread can help someone else out!
