Add-A-Leaf Opinions (2.5" vs. 4")

I'm planning on putting a 6" Fabtech lift on my 2WD 2006 in a few months, and bumping it to 8". However, the kit only comes with 2" rear blocks and I've got to have at least 1.5" of rake, plus I already have 2" rear blocks. So, I'm going to need a bigger block and/or an AAL to get the height I want.

I'd like to stick with a block that's 4" or so or smaller, but am fine with a 5" block. I've been looking at the Skyjacker 4" AAL, and am concerned with how it will affect the ride. I can either get that and stick with a smaller block, or choose from a whole bunch of 1.5-2.5" AALs and a larger block. I've seen some thread where people are fine with the 4", but never commented on ride. So, is there a connection between AAL lift height and how harsh the ride gets?

My springs are also pretty tired and I'd like to get them some help when I've got a lot of payload. I'll probably get some new leaf packs down the road, but can't afford to right now.

Preferred - 4" AAL + 4" block = 8" lift
Fine with - 2.5" AAL + 5" block = 7.5" lift

Synopsis: Is a 4" AAL too big and/or too harsh? I'm okay with it riding like a 3/4 ton

It's definitely gonna make the ride stiffer, is it a long or short aal?

It's long one. No way I'm getting a short. Is it gonna be stiffer than a 2.5" though? I assume yes, but that's really what I'm wondering.

I'd think it'd be a little stiffer, but because it's a long leaf pack that'll help a lot.

Seems to me with all the hoops you're jumping through, you just need to talk yourself into new spring packs...do it right and be done with it instead of stacking all that crap.

One add a leaf and a block that's basically the same as stock 4x4s? That's not ghetto-riggin a bastard-pack A ton of lifts even supply exactly what I'll be doing, including BDS.

While I'd love new leafs, they aren't worth $1000 to me at the moment. Truck literally never goes off the pavement either, so they'd be of no use. Front end will have extended shocks and be no different than any other leveled truck. Can't justify spending close to $7k on a street queen when I'll already be spending close to $4500 just in parts, before gears.

The Skyjacker is a softride AAL... It won't make it stiffer... I found a set of used skyjacker 4-6" leaf pack about a month ago... That's the route to go.. My 4" block was to much and caused the springs to start bending backwards.. If you don't tow then a 4-5" block will not be an issue

Thanks. I knew it was labeled "softride" but thought that was just a sales gimmick haha. Even those whole lifting leaf packs aren't bad at <$700 for the pair. But yeah, I don't tow very often, barely at all now that the boat is gone.

Thanks, definitely looking forward to how they work for you. I've actually started looking at Skyjacker 6" full replacements for a few hundred more, but I've still got time to decide.

Yeah, thanks. They're $580 or so shipped from Autoanything (after my 15% discount). I'll have to price compare.

Just checked and each site has different parts listed. And the pic of them on Autoanything looks more like what we need, and they are more descriptive.

AA : #FR96S
4wheel : #FR44S

Ooooh and FR96S is for F250s according to Skyjacker's website. So $540 shipped from 4wheel on the FR44s looks like an absolute steal.

Block and AAL = $200 + $150+ = $350+
Full springs = $540

Totally worth $190 extra and an easier install.

Yes it's the FR44S... Still in a dispute trying to get my money back.. Once that happens I'll be grabbing the brand new ones
