Inner tie rod question

So Im going to replace the inner and outer tie rods. Two questions

1. I know for outer you count the turns when taking off and then screw in the same number when installing. But when you are removing BOTH inner and outer how many turns do you count/turn?

2. What do I do about the inner boot? I hear you must break off the inner ring and it cant be re-used. What do folks do about that?

Hi.

I didn't count, I measured. Yer gonna need to get alignment checked in any case.

I don't recall having to break anything off to do this job ( it was a while ago though and I be an ol' decrepit fossil now )

When I did mine, I took an old piece of cardboard and kinda traced around the edges on them so when I installed the new ones I could get it pretty close. But I also took mine off without seperating them apart.

I plan on using a tie rod tool for removal so I think I have to take them apart. Basically you want the whole inner / outer assembly to be the same length as the new one?

Yes, but you STILL need to get an alignment. That will be close enough to drive it to the shop.
