6" bds coilover

Ordered a 2014 fx4 super crew. Thinking about the bds 6" lift? I had a rancho 4" on a 2007 which I liked but I would like to go a little bigger. My biggest question is are the coilover shocks worthy the extra money do they make a big difference over the 6" kit without?

Thanks in advance Brock

How often do you offroad? That's where coilovers shine. Otherwise, the new (2011+) F150s ride great on spacer lifts IMO. I've driven quite a few of each and there's a night and day difference between a lifted 04-10 and an 11+ plus.

Not a whole lot of offroading. Going more for the look but would like it if it road close to or better than stock. Install seems a little simpler just for the fact I don't need a spring compressor to change front struts as I did with the rancho.

I've always been told that ya go spacer for street queen and coilovers for offroad. I feel like the coilovers would probably provide more stability and tighten everything up in it's raised-up state, but I can't say if it's worth the extra $900 to you. And coilover lifted trucks are usually a bit stiffer as well. From my personal experience, I think the new power steering components and everything make the 11+ trucks feel great overall when lifted with spacers. Some I can't even tell are lifted as far as drive-ability. But I haven't daily driven any of them for months in order to give you more info about how they compare over time.

I'm sure someone has had two 2011+ trucks, one with spacer lift and another with coilovers. Desert Dawg maybe?

I think Rancho is the company with a solid, one piece subframe as well that is very rigid compared to other lifts. So that lift is great, very tight for the 04-08s if it is indeed the one piece subframe kit

Thanks for your expertise so far! the rancho 4" was a great riding lift for the 07 that i have, and looks to still be a one piece sub frame for the 09-13 models.

No problem, I've absorbed a lot of knowledge from this site and willing to spread it, and I'm lucky enough to work at big dealership with lots of lifted trucks lol. I think they are still the one piece. They're definitely better than a two piece, but that fact that you have to cut the frame to fit it in there (I think) is a deterrent for some folks that want the option to remove the lift and have it be completely stock. It wouldn't hurt to just go with another Rancho because that's what you know. BDS is pretty indisputably the best as far as overall quality of all the components. The crossmembers/subframes are so much thicker and heavier than some others. The no BS lifetime warranty is always nice too cause they actually stand behind that entirely from everything I've seen from people that have had any issues with parts.

It sounds like you installed your 07's yourself and are going to do the 14's as well?

I did do the '07 myself and plan on doing the '14. Both kits require cutting according to the install. I had talked myself into the rancho when I ordered the truck but now I think I want to go a little higher due to the fact you can almost achieve the look of the rancho with a levelling kit and a rear block!

I hear ya! The good thing to mention about coilovers is that they can be cranked to 8". 8" can be achieved via a 6" spacer and bilstein leveling struts too, but coilovers are the "best" way to get it. But yeah, 4" kits are almost a waste of money in my mind. They do provide the best overall look though. Too bad I suffer from "go bigger" syndrome . . .

I tell everyone to do a level and bigger block now cause it looks borderline lifted. And 2WDs like mine achieve leveled 4WD status with a 4" - big whoop haha. Funny that Rancho doesn't make a 6" though.

I've got the non coil over BDS 6' on my 2012, and I think it's fine. I do a little offroading at the deer lease, and it does just fine.

Thanks for the input both of you! If rancho made a 6" I would for sure go with that!

Does anybody know if there are any Black Friday sales on lift kits or the best place to buy on line is?

That's a good question! I don't know. I've been searching for something, anything, for the truck that I can "force" myself to buy

Thing with BDS is that they are THE best, with the best no BS, no-questions-asked warranty. Member have said that their subframes and other components are noticeably heavier (thick with more steel) than other lifts they've had. Never heard a soul complain about one.

Group buy on lifts? Lol I put off my exhaust shopping currently as I'm getting the lift bug. I've driven lifted trucks for the last 7 years so a stock truck feels awkward to me. I'm in the same boat with the coil over debate as well. Anyone here running procomp lifts? I really wish icon did a 6" as I've ran icon multiple times in the past.

It's gonna be tough to get multiple people willing to drop ~$2k+ at one coordinated time. Be nice to get 20% off on a lift though!
