Question Edelbrock IAS Shocks

I am thinking about upgrading to the Edelbrock IAS shocks this weekend, wanted to know if anyone out there that already has them installed has any opinions on them one way or the other? They seem to be fairly expensive (between $260 and $300 for all four.) Did you notice much difference in the quality of your ride or any difference in your handling abilities? TIA guys....

I too was looking at those, however NAPA sells a similar piece for much less. I am looking into those now, will post what I find out.

I'm running Monroe Reflex's on my 98 supercab. So far, 20K plus, they are pretty good. MUCH better than stock. But want to know how the Edelbrocks are.

The monroes are about 60 bucks a peice.

FYI - I got all four Reflex shocks for $140. Nice to catch a buy 3 get one free sale! They were about 45 a piece.

Edelbrock Shocks

I replaced the original factory shocks with Edelbrock's on my 2000 4x4 about three weeks before I traded it in on my 2001. They made a world of difference over the worn out factory shocks. I paid $70 apiece + shipping and received a $27 rebate from Edelbrock. The new truck is in dire need of Edelbrock's, the body roll while driving around town is driving me crazy. I hope they come out with a "buy 3 get the 4th free" before Monroe or Rancho does, or I might end up with the Reflex/RSX.

I installed the Edelbrocks on my truck 2 weeks ago. The first thing I noticed and didn't expect was a quicker steering response. This truck takes the curves much better now. Not a harsh ride either. I still can't believe that I took a plunge and paid $70.00 each for shocks but I'm glad I did. I highly recommend them.

Good luck

Handling aside, did the shocks improve the quality of your ride or not?

Thumbs up Edelbrocks.

I have them and like them a lot. They reduce body lean in corners, and recover the truck from those freeway whoops much more quickly. They also are quite smooth when hitting a pothole. They are also firmer than stock. So they are better riding and performing than even the best stock shocks yet they have firmer valving. Go to Edelbrock.com and read up on them. Also I think any really good aftermarket shock would make you quite happy. Like Rancho and Bilsteins........

Question

I just bought the Monroe reflex shocks. I have been very pleased with them. I was wondering if there was anyone who has had experience with the Monroe reflex AND the Edelbrock IAS shocks? I can't help but wonder how they might compare.

For 65-70 bucks a shock, you might also want to consider Bilsteins. Just put a set on and what a difference. After only 12k miles, my stock shocks (if you even want to call them that) were dead, so really anything would have been a step-up. But, so far I am really impressed. Excellent damping, great ride quality - definitely a lot stiffer, but not a rough ride in my opinion. Some of the body roll is gone, but I really think a sway bar in back, and a real one up front, would make a big difference. They don't have any fancy gimmicks or tricky valving, just a bulletproof design and some serious gas pressure! Good luck.

Just got the Monroe Reflex. $40 each at local O'Reilly Automotive. There is also a $20 mail in rebate for buying 4. I like them so far but haven't done any extended driving yet. Can tell a big difference though just driving around town; smoother ride, less body roll when turning. Of course anything would have been better that the OEM shocks. I would have liked to bought the Edelbrock IAS but I couldn't justify the additional cost when compared to what Monroe offered. Edelbrock is now listing a lower cost, twin tube shock also.

Sunday, I replaced my shocks with Trailmaster SSV shocks.

I was looking at the Ederbrock IAS's also but my local 4x4 shop (who also sell the IAS's) told me that the Trailmasters were made by the same people, perform just the same and cost much less.

While I have NO experiance with the IAS's, the new Trailmasters are great. They obsorb bumps and also allow me to corner faster than before.

The best price I could find for the IAS's was $69.99.
The trailmasters were $45.00

This weekend will be the real test, a 24mile offroad rally...
