pro comp lift coils trouble! !
I bought a set of procomp lift coils from stylintrucks.com and am having some seriously frustrating issues with the instal. They are supposed to be a direct fit and supposed to give 6 inches of lift. I got a spring compressor and got the spring in and started jacking up the bottom control arm. The whole damn truck starts comming off the ground. So then I stop and think. I grabbed five wratchet tie Downs and started using those to try to get the spring to compress just a little bit more to get the upper ball joint in the spindle. After 2 hours of head ache I get it in. But now the spring compressor tool is stuck in between the coils. After 3 hours of that mess I decided I would have to separate the ball joint and let it down to get it out. Ha! Its out finally! Take 2 on the Jack and ratchet straps. Nothing. Without the compressor in there it wouldn't do anything. I put all the factory stiff back together and was fed up with it.
My question is, is there anybody that has ever done this install? I can't find ANYONE on the internet that has these springs. I'm starting to thing I've wasted my money.

There's no 6" lift coils for the 97-03 2wds. The most coil your going to cram in there in 3" lift coils and you'll need aftermarket upper control arms to run those.
Sounds like you bought the wrong coils.
And for the install your gonna have to either take off the sway bar and either the upper control arm, the upper balljoint, or lower balljoint to get them in (you have to get the spindle out of the way), plus most likely the tie rod on that side.
Side note, I wouldn't even mess with spring compressors, never needed it when I did my coils on my truck.

You bought replacement coils for the pro comp 6" lift kit. I've seen them before and it is very misleading to the unknowing. Your best bet is to return them and buy the 2" coils from rough country, or you can buy 3" coils and aftermarket control arms. Those are the only two options you really have.

Thanks for the replies! I thought I bout the wrong ones as soon as I saw them on the truck. But I did get them in without removing the upper ball joint and control arm. I did shave off the small triangle on the upper control arms. So I guess I'm all set for the 3" coils. Can I get the 3" coils and the 3" spindle to achieve a 6" lift?

This is probably another stupid question but Im gonna ask anyway. I found a crossmember box that lowers the lower control arm down 3 inches. Could I use the coil springs that I have if I had that and the 3" spindle? I just already have 5.5 inch lift blocks for the rear and am trying to keep them. I know I wont get back what I paid for them and I would hate to give the coils and block away for cheap.
Nope, with a drop down crossmember style lift, and aftermarket control arms, the most you'll fit is still about 4.5". Your best bet is going to be to try to return what you've bought and buy a real kit not individual components or boxes and try to piece it together because you'll almost always end up coming up short.
