Harsh Clunk In Front End

Ok, my truck is under warranty, but everytime I take it in, I can not duplicate the noise I have heard 4 times previous. While turning, slowly, and going either over a speed bump, or up a driveway, (on bothsides) there is a horrible ginding/clunking noise coming from the front end. At first I thought it was a tire rubbing, but I have stock size tires on my truck. I also saw no signs of rubbing anywhere. It doesn't do al of the time, only when I least expect it...like when the mechanic(s) are no where around usually. Anyone else have this problem?
I have a 2000 4x4 that's got all stock drivetrain and suspension parts.

Suggest two easy things..check tension of steering toe adjust locknuts right next to tie rods...mine where barely tight...

The idler goes through a lot of grease--keep it greased or it will knock....

I have the same thing. I read in another post that the Torsion Bars need to be greased, and the noise will stop. It does make sense, because mine only does it entering or exiting my driveway or on speedbumps. I have not greased them yet, but plan to soon. If that works I will keep you posted.

Unhappy Driver side lower suspension arm

makes this exact noise on the Lightnings. I don't know if you also have an elongated hole for the mounting point to the frame. Check for signs of the bolt/nut sliding. You should also search the Lightning forum for "clunk"...

i noticed you have a grill guard. my dad has a 95 bronco with a brush guard that he had installed back when he bought the truck. well recently one of the bolts from the brush guard came slightly loose and everytime he steers into a driveway or hits any sort of speed bump it makes a loud clunking noise. it sounds like there was something loose in the front suspension, but we finally figured out it was that. if all else fails, make sure all your bolts for the grill guard and the bumper are tight. good luck!

Mine clunks the same. I am almost positive it is something in the steering. I jacked up the front of the truck and I can actually feel it clunk slightly if I hit the tires. It seems that the joints need to be re-greesed. However there are no fittings on the stock joints so I will have to try the syringe technique.

Good luck,
kev

LOWER BALL JOINTS. check the boots by lifting the plastic skirts covering them. mine were completly gone and the ball joints were worn out. they would clunk really bad when turning and hitting a bump or incline i.e. a driveway. hope this helps.

Wow, thanks all.
Mine is a 2000 with only 14K miles on it. I had the dealer grease the whole suspension 2 weeks ago. Yet, I heard the clunk 3 days ago when leaving my neighborhood going over a speed bump while turning sharply. Sounded bad. I will definately have Ford look at it. Since it's still under warranty. Thanks all. I love these boards.
