Procomp AAL

I just spent the morning installing the Pro Comp AAL p/n 13134 (fits 04-08 F150). I purchased through Summit, and though I can say I received it promptly, it was damaged and missing parts (maybe no fault of Summit). The kit was supposed to have, among other things, 4 1/2" center bolt washers and 4 additional plastic spring sliders which were missing, and one of the spring sliders that was pre installed on the leaf was cracked at the prong. JB Weld and 24 hours later the slider was fixed. As far as the install; I've read several posts where users weren't clear where to install the spring, but the included instructions make it very clear to install in order of length, from longest on top to shortest on bottom. Now as far as that fitment, I do not know what Pro Comp uses for design criteria, but the new AAL sits 3rd down, below the leaf that the spring clamps are riveted to. Using their guidelines I didn't have to spread the spring clamp as I was below it. The difference in length though of the stock spring and new AAL was only about 2 inches. The front plastic spring slider of the AAL sits directly below the front spring clamp, the rear of the AAL was butted against the rear spring clamp, causing misalignment of the spring pack and holes. Because of this, I had to trim about 1/2" of the rear of the new AAL. This remedied the situation, but what a PITA! If the new AAL was simply 4 inches longer it could sit 2nd down and be held in between the spring clamps. Or if it was about 4 inches shorter it could sit where I put it with no fitment issues, no contact on the rivet of the spring clamp above it, no butting against the rear spring clamp. That being said....now that it's on, I gained 2" in the rear, increased my payload, yet ride quality is not much harsher than it was before, if at all. I'm glad I went with the long AAL vs. the short, I've read a lot that the short ones are harsh. Overall, despite some issues, I'm pretty happy, I'll just have to keep an eye on things.

I installed the same aal on my 06 fx4. It was missing the plastic slider and another was broken. I had to take apart the factory spring clamp to make it fit correctly. Truck rides well and haven't had any issues since I installed it last year.

How do you mean take the clamp apart? As in cut off the rivet and remove the clamp? Did you install the AAL 3rd down as I did, below the clamps?

sorry, i meant that i bent the clamps apart and installed the leaf between those two leafs. i read on numerous forums that other people have had to do that as well. i then had to bend the clamps back into place. i tried to install the leaf like you did but it was hitting the clamp. never thought of cutting it though.

Ok, but now your AAL is out of sequence, right? It's shorter than the stock leaf below it? Depending on how things go, this may be temporary, I may go for a Deaver pack.

Yeah it is but not by much... payload and ride quality are good so I'm happy. Yeah deaver would be ideal for sure!

sorry to bump an old thread but i also installed the pro comp AAL for towing (im lowered and dont need any sagg) and i was just wondering what tool(s) you used to bend the spring clamp back in place nice and tight?

two of mine bent back good with a hammer but i still need to squeeze back the other two nice and tight.

just wondering what tool to use thats easy to bend them back with, i was going to put my vise clamp under there and torque them down but its bolted to a stand right now...thanks

I used a hammer to get it close, then a large c-clamp to slowly bring it back to original.

They sell aftermarket clamps which would be easier if you aren't too ****. Never used this style personally.

Since you're lowered, any reason you didn't go with bags?
