Question Question about OEM Lifts

This has probably been discussed on here before, but I want to ask the question again. I am in the market for a new 2012 FX4 Supercrew and i want a 6in lift on it. What do yall think about buying from a dealership with the lift, wheels, and tires already installed, or do yall think its it better to buy the truck and then add everything you want aftermarket. Any responses would be much appreciated, I am torn on what to do.

When I was looking at new trucks back in 05, the trucks that were already lifted were $10k-12k more expensive than the other comperable trucks on the lot...I looked at Fords, Toyotas, Nissans...all the same...

But it is hard to come up with the money after the fact to have that stuff done, so I wouldn't blame someone for pulling the trigger on one already lifted...

Regards!

The advantage to a dealer done lift / tires etc... is that you can wrap the extras into the note. The disadvantage is the same, so they get you cost wise initially, and on the cost of financing.

Some dealership service departments will give you heck over non dealership installed mods such as lifts etc... when it comes time for warranty issues. So buying with pre-installed lifts etc... have that advantage as well.

If they'll warranty it even then, some dealers still will try to find loop holes to say its not covered even if they sold you it with the preinstalled lift, so I'd make sure you check into that.

First Ford does not make a lift kit. What would be put on at a dealer is exactly what you can find anywhere else. No matter who puts the kit on Ford will not warranty the lift parts at all. No matter who puts the lift kit on, everything but the kit will still be under warranty. If something happens, Ford would have to prove the lift kit caused the problem, which will most likely not happen as most companies that do the lift kits work with the car manufacturer's for there products.

I personally would NEVER purchase a vehicle lifted already through the dealer. As kcward stated, you will pay around $10k for what would cost you $5k having a shop do the install or $4k doing yourself. And the main reason I would not buy one already lifted is b/c it is usually the Badlander edition and basically every truck looks a like. I rather have a one of a kind truck and still save $4k-$5k. Warranty due to a lift is not a concern as long as everything is installed properly. A lift will not cause anything in the drive train or any electronic part to fail. Brake pads, ball joints, wheel bearings, etc. that may wear faster than a normal vehicle will not be covered wether you purchase the lift through the dealer or install later.
