Steering box replacement

My truck currently has some play in the steering wheel and I've replaced everything from tie rods to ball joints etc. I can turn the wheel back and forth slightly without the wheels moving. So right now the only thing else I can think of replacing is the steering box. Does anyone have any input on possibly what brands they may have used or possibly a heavy duty box that I can use due to the oversize tires? Any other advice in figuring this out on what I should do would be great.

Thanks

you should be able to tighten up the gear box with the manual adjustment, you won't be able to get it perfect, but should be able to take up 60-70% of the slack.

The center naturally wears down more than the outside does.

Me personally I'd keep factory for as long as possible. Most of the stuff out there is "reman" stuff and its junk.

Ive done it on several other vehicles.... Haven't tried it on an F-series yet, but its same concept on any parallelogram steering gear

(not my video)

tighten it a little bit and go drive it, come back nope and tighten center pin a little more. If you tighten too much, the steering will "hang up" on the outside of a turn, and won't be able to return to center without some help.

Let me know how it goes

Pat, figured I'd let you know since you were interested. Adjusted the box just a bit ago and it did help quite a bit. Still not what I'm looking for but it def made it 'tighter', I may adjust slightly more but I dont want to damage the gear so I may leave it the way it is.
