removing struts

sounds like it would be easy to pullout my busted stock front suspension, but my tie rod ends are giving me some grief! ive taken the wheel off, removed the nut from the bolt running through the knuckle, but the angle gets to steep to remove the tie rod from the knuckle! i can get the bolt level with the knuckle so the threaded portion is hidden, but i dont want to tweak anything wrenching on it! can i use a jack under the a arm to compress the spring? or im i just doing something wrong? this is a 05' 4x4 lariat screw
