Upper & Lower Ball Joints???
Upper & Lower Ball Joints???
I have a 2002 F150Screw w/ 160k miles & 2002 4WD Excursion w/ 170k miles. Within one week I've been told both need upper & lower ball joints, new control arms and camber kits for proper adjustments. The total Is $850 for each separate vehicle. Needless to say $1,700 is a lot of money anytime but especially in this economy. The trucks were taken in at different times with one being by my wife and the other with me to the same place. We got almost the same speech. Now I figure at this high mileage it's likely that the parts are worn but I'm a little suspicious.
I do a lot of work on my own vehicles but I know nothing about suspension/steering components nor do I have 10 to 12 hours to devote to these changes with my limited knowledge. So (1) how can I determine if these parts are in fact worn? (2) Is this a reasonable price for 4 to 5 hours each?
Thanks for your input!!

Jack them up and wiggle the wheels back and forth up and down if they have play then their needed. The price 850 is decent but its all labor. But for 850 you could buy parts for both trucks plus tools but you don't have the time. So 850 isnt bad I got quoted 1200 for upper and lower on my 2wd, did it myself for 300.
Yeah that sounds about right. I was quoted $375 just in labor without an alignment to do my lowers a few years ago. It's not too hard of a job to do and there is actually a great youtube video of how to do it for our trucks.
