SAS leaf help needed.

Finally gonna bite the bullet and do my sas on my 01 f150. My front Dana 60 is in the process of getting rebuilt then its go time. The problem I'm having is what leaf springs to run in front? I've searched and searched all over fullsizebronco.com but there isn't a lot of info there on the 97+ trucks. I plan on using f350 hangers and shackles. Will stock 96 f350 springs give me enough clearance to clear the stupid crossmember in the front? Or will I need 2 or 4" 350 leaves? I've heard u need 7 to 8" of total lift to clear the crossmember. The truck won't be used for hardcore offroading, just mild. It prolly won't be stuffed hardly ever, if at all. Thoughts?

if it's just to be used for mild offroading then you're wasting a lot of money on something that ifs can do. the point of a sas is to allow greater flex and stronger axles for larger tires than the ifs can handle. solid front axles are the best no doubt but it just seems like a waste if you're not using it.

ha well I agree with that, I guess its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

That makes sense to me, make sure you take a lot of pics as you go along and do like a build thread on here for it. It'd be nice to have a few sas threads to refer people to when they ask about how to go about doing it and what all is involved.

running 3/4 ton to 1 ton leaf springs is going to net you a rough ride...

From what I've read its only the 250 springs that ride rougher then a cob. The 350 ones ride fairly decent from what I hear. Of course they are stiffer then factory, but not as bad as a stock f350.

When I did mine I used 73-87 half ton chevy springs and built all the hangers from scratch. I believe if you use the f350 springs you will have to lengthen the frame as they are longer. also the half ton springs will ride nicer than the f350s

Jr what year truck do you have? How big of lift springs did you use and how much total lift did you end up with?

My truck is a 99. I used 8" lift springs and built another 5-6" in my hangers plus i have a 3" body lift on top of that so I ended up with 16-17" of lift. I was running 44s but I got a set of 40s now so I'm going to lower it 4" and run those. I'll be replacing the 8" springs with 4" ones. I know you dont want that much lift but you could probably get away with using 2" springs depending on how you build your hangers but the minimum amount of lift you could have will probably be around 7-8"

Yeah I'm shooting for about 8" total. I already have a 3" body lift but I may take it out. I don't plan on going bigger then 37s. I think 8" and 37s would look about right .
