Those tire shops use some kind of wheel clamps from the alignment machine which scrape the paint on painted wheels. They have some kind of special ones for bigger wheels and painted ones that most shops don't have. I went through the same BS when I had mine done. We can't do a 20 inch wheel if it is painted black. 4WP was the only guys who could.

Dillon, is that on bias ply tires? I've heard keeping a bias ply balanced is hell. I've seen a good mount of 38x16.5 tires (radial and bias ply) and bigger, using the bb method to keep them balanced.

Your actually wrong they have spacers for the heads and different ends to keep from scratching the wheels. Like I said, most of the shops have a mechanic that knows what they are doing.

mine are radials. the next shop i went to spun them with the bbs in there and the bbs made my tires off by nearly twice the weight.

I installed my lift at a friend's shop and then drove about 40 miles on my stock tires to have the mounting/alignment done on my new tires at a specialty shop that aligns trucks with huge custom lifts. Definitely worth it to take it to someone who knows what they are doing.
