Things to replace with 6"lift

Hey guys I saw a post like this a couple months back, but now for the life of me I can't find it. There was some really good info on it. I'm about to put a 6" lift on my 04 new body style screw 4x4. It has almost 140k miles on it now. This truck has been amazing to me so far and I would like to keep it that way. Is there things you guys suggest replacing at the same time I put the lift on to keep it running for 100k more miles? I'm thinking things like ball joints, u joints, a arms etc. Also, I would like to hear your guys opinions on putting it on at all with this many miles. Any reasons not to? I'm no high schooler who is gonna TRY to tear it up, just like the look of a lifted truck and will use it hunting and riding in the mountains a few times a year. Thanks for all opinions and suggestions

I dont think a-arms are a problem unless they are damaged, or you just got the dough to spend on some new ones. ball joints and those sorts of things i would for sure do because you are going to have the whole front end out of your truck anyway. Brakes? I dont know, but sounds like you are on the right track. Im no mechanic so im sure the gurus can let you know. I just lifted mine not too long ago and you will love it.... Dont forget gears for down the road....your tranny has some wear on it already. Anyway good luck.

Replace all 4 ball joints for sure if they are still the originals. I would probably do sway bar end links and tie rod ends too. Get Moog parts, they all have life time warranties and they don't really cost any more than other manufacturers if you buy them from rockauto.com. And like Big Smokey said, gears will be a very good idea with a 6" lift and I assume you're getting 35s. I got 4.56s with my 35s and I love them. And they will be fine with 37s if you ever plan on going up a little more like I probably will

For sure. To replace your upper bjs, you will need to replace the a-arms with new Moog ones but the bjs can be pressed out in the future. AT 140k, I would be sure my brake, tranny and diff fluids are swapped. And yes, start saving for new gears...

Rockauto want 3X the money for the upper control arms in the moog vs the cheaper brands. Moog is $75, Dorman is $27 I have 198k on my 2006 F150 and am thinking of doing the all ball joints when I put the shocks in. 4 ball Moog ball joints runs about $200. Tie rod ends and sway bar links are another $125 in Moog.

The lowers are the "load bearing" joints, most of the weight is on them. Fortunately they are only about $50 per pair for the Moogs.
