Going for the pre-runner look
Going for the pre-runner look
I've always been a fan of the pre-runner look on a truck. The only problem is, I don't have the funds for a long travel kit.
So, for now my plan is to replace my rear 2" blocks with either the 1 5/8" blocks that come on newer F150's or a 1" steel block for a 2wd.
My front coil-overs are worn out anyways, so after I get new ones, I'll have the "cali lean" for lack of a better word. I know VERY FEW people on this board are a fan of it, but I've always been.
Any other idea's of how I can achieve this look easier?

Find a way to widen the front track width, since your an 04 it looks like wheel spacer's will be your only choice. And when you go with new coil-overs for the front get the leveling one's to bring it up. Start looking for a pre-runner bumper if you want the full look (check dixon bro's their price's are pretty reasonable for pre-fabbed ones. And depending if you widen the front and how wide of a tire you run MAYBE consider a set of fiberglass fender's with no more than a 4" flair.

What coil-overs are best for getting the most lift possible for a stock 4wd? I know the new rancho quicklifts are a good option, but what are some other good options that come pre-assembled?
I'm also thinking about just getting OEM Monroe replacement coil-overs and just moving my 3" leveling kit over from my old worn out coil-overs to the new ones.
What do ya think?
I'm going to go in between "the look" and the real thing. Around my area there are enough trails and turns that the prerunner kits would be perfect. The kits are in the several thousand dollar range but that's what I'd like.
I won't need an engine cage the shocks could mount too. And I won't need a bed cage but the rear shocks might protrude through the floor. Since the Ford shocks mount outboard of the frame the space used for the top shock mounts is minimal.
It will take time but I'm going to do my best.

When you say pre-runner bumper, is that what you have on your truck now? If so, I'm really liking it. I'm also in love with my ranch hand, so that will be a tough decision.

Yup that's the kind I have on mine now, check dixon bro's they make a bolt on one for your body style too. And wheel spacer's I'm not too sure about, I'd ask wandell on here, he'd probably be able to give you some good advice with those.

you could also just pull your rear block completely, but i personally think the shackles are a better way to go.
for the wider front end be cautious using "spacers" as they may put extra stress on your lugs. I would look at the site http://billetwheeladapters.com/6-lug...apters.htmland check into "adapters" as they actually have a new set of pressed lugs. They make a 6x135 to 6x135 that measures 1.5". these are popular in the offroad jeep community.
If it will see any trail use stay away from wheel spacers. I have none on my truck its all long travel front end and linked rear. I have broken more spindle snouts than i can count. They are the stock size and the stress they get with the suspension and 35" tires snap them pretty easy. Spacers are even worse. Its not just the lugs u gotta worry about.
