About to order lift, what else to get for a truck with 150k...ball joints ect.

I am probably going to order a rancho 4" lift today for my 05 f150. My truck has 149k and the shocks are done...so the lift kit w shocks will take care of that. What else do I need to order to freshen up my front end while its all apart?

I was thinking getting the stuff from rock auto...MOG stuff? Part numbers would be great!!

Upper and lower ball joints...things like that...I have no idea

Thanks!

I got new UCA's w/ ball joints, lower ball joints, inner and outer tierods, and they were all from MOOG purchased on the cheap @ Rockauto.

I do however intend on giving the Raybestos stuff a shot. I've read and heard from friends that have other platforms that they are relabled Spicer parts. Better boots and supposedly harder steel.

So are these part numbers correct? The only thing that looks wrong is the price of the MOOG inner tie rod...and also the MOOG doesnt say 4x4 or 4x2 like the raybestoes does on the tie rods.

Anything for the rear?

All these parts listed will be apart when the lift is being installed? So should the place installing the lift not charge to put all this stuff on or is there work needed to install them?

MOOG list and part numbers/prices:

# K80149 lower ball joint 24.79ea times 2 $54.98
# K80306 Control Arm w/Ball Joint; Greasable lh/rh 77.79ea total $155.98
# EV463 Frt Strg; Inner 48.79ea times 2 $97.58
# ES3691 Frt Strg; Outer 36.99ea times 2 $73.98

Total $382.52

And Raybestose part number and price:

# 5051314 Professional Grade lower ball joint 37.79 times 2 $75.58
# 5021084 Professional Grade Complete Arm With Ball Joint 95.79ea total $191.58
# 4051133 Professional Grade Inner; Four Wheel Drive (4X4) 29.79ea times 2 $59.58
# 4011929 Professional Grade Outer 42.79ea times 2 $85.58

Total $412.32

Like for the pulley/belt system?

Why? Just wondering why you say that...

04+ trucks have rack and pinion steering, there isn't an idler arm or pitman arm.

Ahh ok that makes more sense lol. When I was looking on rockauto for that description it was coming up with the belt system.

I just checked Rockauto and those look like the right ones. As far as MOOG offering only one inner tie rod, and pretty much everyone else offering 2 different ones..... I would *guess* that there are durability aspects, the 4wd version being beefier? MOOG has had a pretty good reputation, despite people saying they aren't what they used to be. With that said, I purchsed all of my parts from Rockauto, the same ones you're ordering. I do plan on using the professional grade Raybestos parts if/when the need arises. So far, the MOOG parts are still in good shape. I just greased them up and they're still happy.

How are your leaf packs? Saggy, or are they ok? You could always get them re-arched if they're sagging a bit. Most peoples are fine and don't need to be, but there are those guys that should've gotten a 3/4 or 1 ton truck and haul/tow their 1/2 ton into the ground.

The knuckle is coming off, the LCA is coming off and the outter tie rod is getting disconnected. A little more effort is needed to replace the wearable items, but they're pretty much one more step to replace at this point and would/should be a ton cheaper......if not free. I wouldn't plan on it being free, but I would expect a break on the labor by a bit.

The raybestoes stuff isnt that much more...I just dont know about either brand so I dont know if the extra $ spent is needed. Are the raybestoes stuff greaseable like the MOOG....does MOOG HAVE to be greased every so often adding a upkeep chore to the truck?

I have no idea if they are saggy...this truck has seen little towing...just a smaller sized boat and the occasional small covered trailer. So I would guess not saggy.

I would love it to be free but understand if there is a step there will be a cost...but agree it should be cheaper. I am looking into install prices now...no idea what it should cost...

It looks like they're greaseable. (look at their "advanced tech" tab)

I probably didn't need to grease my MOOG parts, but while I was topping off my boat trailer bearings.......I did just because I had the grease gun out I also wanted to visually inspect everything before I took off for the weekend.

Also, you might want to replace your swaybar links.....while you're knee deep into the front-end.

I have a grease gun...I was just wondering. If the slightly more expensive setup didnt need to be greased that was one less thing I have to do lol.

The ability to add grease is a plus, which the factory stuff doesn't have. You'd have to tap it for a grease zerk (which some people will do).
