Torsion Bar adjustment
Torsion Bar adjustment
I did the search and here is what I found out. All of the posts describe what it does and how much turning will raise it etc. but none of them show pics of what to actually turn or which direction. Clockwise vs. counter clock wise. I have never done this mod before so I want to make sure I do it right. Any help would be great. Pics of the parts to adjust would be better.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I do believe if I remember correctly I turned it clockwise. In any case- turn it a full turn then measure you will be either lower or higher by about a half inch...then adjust accordingly. By the way, to save you a headache- the bolt is 18mm.
Yep it is an 18mm socket and you definetly turn them clockwise. Get under the truck and you can't miss the bolts. They are under about the middle of the doorway on the frame of the truck. Just follow the huge torsion bar back until it stops. It is very easy to adjust these, just count your turns. make sure you measure the height before and after and make sure you lift it evenly. I lost count of the turns on the one side of my truck and had to rely on measuring. I didn't jack up the truck to adjust the bars, but when I was done, I jacked up the front and let it back down and measured it again. Then I took the truck for a drive including some light offroading in a field by my home and brought it back and measured and adjusted it again.
I lifted the front about 7/8" with about three turns. I have heard of people getting 1.5"+ but i wasn't going to go nuts. The truck sits almost perfectly level now, the rear wheel wells are only 1/8" higher than the front and it DOES make a noticeable difference.

I did mine about 3 weeks ago. Everyone's right it is a 18mm socket and it about the middle of the door frame. I found it works best if you use a 1/2 drive ratchet and measure on a good level surface other than grass. I was only going to take mine up 3 but had to take one up to 4 to level it out. I didn't even measure the rear, but it might not be a bad thing to do.

In addition to the above I found that my truck pulled to the right after I raised mine. I tightened the right bolt a quarter turn a day until it no longer pulled. Initially I had turned both of them exactly the same amount to gain a little more than an inch.
