Auto Spring or Hell Bent Steel
Auto Spring or Hell Bent Steel
I have a 08 FX4 SCab and I trying to decide what is the best leveling kit. Did the search and really didn't come up with a decisive answer. Is the AS kit with the built in offset a better kit to go with due to this design feature? does this offset even matter?
what is everyones though or experience.
Going to go with a 2.5" lift and maybe air bags in the rear instead of a block or aal.
Thanks,
Ken

I dont have the offset. Ive been running mine for like 3 yrs or so now. They came up with the offset idea to help with the upper control arm hitting the coilovers at full droop if im not mistaken. But AS is a great product and i havent had any problems what so ever besides going through ball joints a little faster but thats a given when you mess with something like that.
I just got a Daystar 2.5 for my 2wd 07, after seeing my dad get it on his 05 fx4 and putting 100k miles on it with it on it and loved it. Im definately wanting it on mine, I do believe the polyurethane helps versus steel on steel
I had a 2007 F150 King Ranch and installed the AutoSpring kit on it. Worked great for the two years I owned the truck. I am going with AutoSpring again on my 2010 F150 Platinum.
Here is their little write up for their kit if you haven't seen it yet...
The AutoSpring 2.5" spacer is manufactured from heavy duty steel not plastic or aluminum that can break down or corrode!!! We have been manufacturing and installing these kits for over 6 years and have sold over 13,000 kits to Ford dealers, service shops and happy Ford owners throughout the World. See what satisfied F-150 owners are saying about our kit in our E-BAY FEEDBACK 100% positive and at the Ford owners forum F-150online.com.
NO STRUT DISSASEMBLY REQUIRED. Other kits require you to completely remove the struts and disassemble them with a coil compressor tool (and it better be a heavy duty one cause the factory coils are stiff). They claim 1.5 hrs (for a suspension mechanic with the right tools on a good day).
!! Don't Be Fooled By An Imitation Of Our Proven Kit !!
Our leveling kit includes three steel 1/4" thick gussets welded in. These gussets extend to the outer edge of the spacers and prevent the top and bottom rings from flexing and bending with age. NEW DESIGN FOR 2009-2010. This is our offset design. The offset keeps your upper control arms from touching the coil springs during full upward deflection (tires off the ground, speed bumps, etc.). ***WITHOUT THIS OFFSET YOU RISK DAMAGING YOUR UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND COIL SPRINGS. THE OFFSET DOES NOT IN ANY WAY EFFECT YOUR HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS OR FACTORY RIDE QUALITY*** WE ARE THE ONLY LEVELING/LIFT KIT MANUFACTURER TO OFFER THIS PROVEN OFFSET DESIGN***
Note!! Other kit manufacturers require you to rotate your strut assembly 180 degrees.mNo need to rotate the strut with our kit installed. Your strut assembly goes back in just like the factory installed it!!
Our Steel spacer simply bolts on top of your existing strut. After installing this kit you can easily clear 33" tires. You can even clear 35 inches tires on factory width rims.(10 inch or less width tires)......We fabricate this kit with strength and ease of install in mind..We use the highest quality materials, including: Grade 8.8 Zinc plated hardware and Nylock nuts. Our kits are fabricated from heavy duty 1/4" CNC LASER cut U.S.steel and 1/4" thick wall D.O.M tubing. These babies won`t break. !!!GUARANTEED FOR LIFE!!!. This kit WILL NOT CHANGE your factory soft ride at all. No special tools required and the kit only takes an hour and a half to install!! L@@k!Your coils are STEEL and your struts are also, so why use plastic in between!! FREE SHIPPING IN THE U.S.A. Buy with confidence. In stock and ready to ship the same day they are purchased (except weekends and holidays of course) Lifetime Warranty. If you would like any questions answered about this kit or it's installation procedures call us at 1-800-345-0431, Mon -Fri 7:30-5:00 mountain or E-mail us. Our kit comes complete with (2) Lift/ leveling spacers, zinc plated hardware, easy to follow installation instructions and INDUSTRAIL QUALITY POWDERCOATING for increased durability and rust prevention.. (important if you live in rust prone areas that use heavy salt and sand on roads in the winter)
Note: After installing this or any other lift/leveling kit you will need to re-align the front end. However, only toe-in will need to be corrected. NO SHIMS or additional parts are required.

I basically went with what the consensus was on the searches I did and went with a AS 2.5". I read all about the most popular ones and went with the AS because of the offset. other that that they all seem to be close to each other with differences in the bolt arrangements and the materials used. I measured the truck and it will get me exactly level if i get the 2.5" out of it. Later I will be putting the air bags on the back for when I have a load or am pulling my boat.
the kit should be here on Friday, once i get it on its to the shop for 275 70 18 Terra Grapplers on the stock wheels and the alignment. then off to the ford dealer to get the spedo re calibrated, so the tranny will shift like its supposed to.
One day I may go with a lift and 35's but for now this will do.
This is just the start!
I have a few things left to do to my Polaris Sportsman 850 XP EPS. then the play money fund will go to the truck!
I am going to get a clutch kit for the bigger tires I have on it. but that is a story for another forum like the Polaris ATV forum.
thanks,
Ken

I think the 2.5 is different though and keeps the struts facing where they need to be. So you definitely need to go with the 2.5 AS like your saying and you shouldnt have any problems.
Thanks.
ordered it on monday and thought that i would have it by now. hopefully i will get it tomorrow. i could have it on during my lunch break from deer hunting
i also picked up the pitman puller from harbor freight to make tje job a little easier.
