Torsion Key Question

Hey guys, I just got a 2002 fx4 and want to level it. But first Ive got a question about the torsion keys. Ive read that turning the stock torsion keys makes the ball joints(suspension parts) wear quickly. Does that also go for aftermarket torsion keys? I just want to be able to fit 33's.

Thanks

Cranking the stock ones don't hurt a thing, even all the way to the stops. Aftermarket ones are another story. Stay clear of them...period. Yo can fit 33's just fine with the stock keys cranked up.

That depends on what wheel you use. If you use a 10 inch wide wheel you will have to trim some plastic off the front bumper's lower valance.

My technique is crank the both full to the stop. If the truck doesn't sit level, simply back off the side that's too high until it's level where you like it.

You can lift the rear an inch or so by installing taller lift blocks.

Very few lift shackles are available for our trucks. But lift blocks are available everywhere.

if you want to stiffen the rear up a little, install an add-a-leaf. this can add 2" of lift and help with the sag.

when cranking torsion bars always do the same amount of turns per each side. start with 2 full turns on each side, drive around the block and check to see if you like the height.

get an alignment when things are said and done.

Any ball park, idea on much lift a full 2 turns will yield? I am putting 1" spacers in the rear of my Expd, and will be adjusting the torsion bars up.

Not true, and not required. The suspension doesn't know how many turns are cranked in nor how far that bolt is in or out. My trucks bolts are drastically different. Re-read my post/instructions above...best way to do it. Cranking the bolts evenly doesn't guarantee a level truck.
