Is it worth it? Thoughts?

I have been pondering the thought of adding a 6" skyjacker or a 6" RCX lift to my 05 Screw after my wheeler sells. I already have a 2" level kit on it and that would stay. I would also just run 35's too. After pricing everything out (tires, wheels, lift, labor), it looks to be around $4000. The only thing that would hold me back is the amount of miles that my truck has (105k). I know that it isn't a TON of miles, but it's a decent amount. I always thought I would just keep the truck until it got around 150k, but if it had a lift, I might keep it a little longer. Also, I put on about 16k miles a year, almost all highway miles. What would you guys do if you were in my situation?

I really like the looks of the Nitto Mud Grapplers. How many miles are you guys getting with these tires? Feel free to give me different Tire/wheel combos.

Right now my truck just has a 2" or 2.5" level kit (can't remember which one) with 285 Pro Comp Extreme M/T's on stock wheels. I have about 16k on the tires and they are wearing very good. I'd definitely get them again! I'll put up a few pics of my truck.

All opinions are welcome! Thanks.

Any reason for only keeping the truck til 150k? With the rate your going for miles, you would have it for less than 4 years from now. Its up to you whether you want to make a $4k investment for a truck you would sell in a few years and most likely not make up any of your money.
If it were me, I'd do the lift and keep it well past 150k.
Nice looking truck btw

No real reason for not keeping it past 150k.. I guess that's just the area that I've sold other vehicles. I guess my other vehicles were starting to rust around 150k and I'm not a fan of the rust

After looking at pics of other trucks lifted the way I'd have it done, it makes me want it more and MORE

ManGuy, did you put the chrome mirrors and door handles on, if so where did you get yours from? Our trucks look almost identical and those look really good.

Thanks

Yeah I put them on myself. It was a kit I purchased on ebay last summer. I think I paid something like $60 for all four door handles and about $40 for both mirror covers. It's some type of plastic with a "chrome look" coating on. They stick on with a heavy duty tape that was already on the backside of the pieces. It's already starting to bubble up a little bit, which is probably from the harsh winters my truck goes through. I can only notice the ripples and bubbles when I get real close. Usually just when I'm waxin' it.

i have a 97 f150 with the 5 inch rcd 35 nitto TRAIL grapplers.. the reason for the trail grapplers is because my local shop say they wear the best out of any m/t tire idk if thats true right now i have about 2k on them and they havnt wore any they still have the nipples on the outter tread and my front ends not even alogned properly cause i knocked it off about a month ago getting it fixed tomorrow... heres my setup obviously yours would look different but the mud grapplers roar alot trail grapplers not so much.. you can hear a sloght whine.. if you wana help your tire tread wear fill your tires with nitrogen it reduces the friction cause nitrogens lighter and also holds pressure better than what air will just dont mix them.. but anyways i hope i helped some -

https://www.f150online.com/forums/me...-6048513-n.jpg cant realy see the tires good from the seconf one

i got a 04 screw, with a 6" RCX and 35" Nitto Mud Grapplers. I love the ride of my truck, its been installed for like 6 months or so. tires look brand new still. i've had buddies pull 40,000 miles out of em with good care and regular rotation. I'd say its worth it.

FYI u cant run the rough country and a 2" or 2 1/2" spacer, it will not work. i ran into this problem about a month ago (theres a thread about it) i ended up having to buy a 1" spacer. although it has been done with our trucks on other lift companys.

I found pictures of Mhockey9090's truck when it had 2" level kit w/ a 6" skyjacker lift running 35" Mud Grapps. Definitely a look I wanna go for! All I need to do is sell the wheeler now.....

I think lifted trucks are cool. You get a better perspective while driving. No worries about scraping. Just keep in mind that with 35s your mpg will drop and also braking will be a slight issue. You'll need to brake earlier due to heavy wheels. Also 1 thing being in So Cal I had to worry about are low parking structures.

I have no worries about parking where I go. My last truck had 35's so I know what the mpgs will be like. A solid 12 mpg is what I got with the last truck with the 5.4 and 3.73's. I get about 14-15 hwy mpg with my 33's running 3.73 factory gearing.

Another plus with having a lifted truck is it's much easier to change the oil!
