Lift blocks?

So i was wondering just how bad are lift blocks for your suspension? Every now and then I hear people shunning others for using them, but why? See, my truck is a bit of a bastard child. I bought it dirt-cheap as a 93 2wd farm truck. It showed 175,000 and overall wasn't in too bad of shape...I thought. I drove it striaght home and into the mud pit and never looked back. It now has a Dana 44 out of a '92 f150 along with the transmission and case out of the '92 and is currently recieving a 5.0 out of an 87 in place of the trusty, yet underpowered 300. My dilemma is in the suspension. I have the front of a 92 4wd and rear of a 93 2wd. I'm looking for a 6" lift and the only site I've found so far that let me "part together" my own kit only offers a 4" leaf in the rear (2wd) could I use a 5.5" block to compensate the rear to save all the headches and confusion for the salesman?
