Need new shocks... Couple ?'s

So its about time for new shocks as mine are becoming pretty worn. I have read countless threads on here praising the 5100's and also the rancho 9000xl's. My question is does my truck (2004 Fx4) need a strut application. Reason im asking is 4wheelparts has the shock deals:

http://www.4wheelparts.com/Lift-Kits...06&t_pl=101369

and i wondered if i could go with one of those specials or i would need the strut application that they are talking about. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated...

Your truck does not have a strut, it has what's called a coil-over. It's a standard shock absorber with the coil spring mounted to it instead of fixed points on the suspension.

However, many internet/aftermarket companies us the term "strut" interchangeably with what's on the front of your truck. If you ordered a "strut" from one of these companies, you would by all accounts receive the correct shock/coil-over when it shows up.

Yes, just make sure it's for your truck. Basically all I'm saying is don't get hung up on the word strut...it is commonly mis-used for the '04 and up trucks, but you will get the right part.

The two mentioned by the OP are both good. I have the Rancho 9000 XL's and am very satisfied with them. Had them for a year and seven months now.
