2" AS and Bilstein HDs

Hey guys,

Time has come for me to replace my shocks. I'm running a 2" AS up front and was debating whether to either replace the AS with some 5100s or just keep the AS and run HDs. I've heard the 5100s stiffen the ride, which is not what I'm looking for, so I'm leaning toward the HDs. Just looking for some input. PS, is it possible to run 5100s in the rear without a suspension lift?

The Bilstein 5100's can be installed with 0" lift. No suspension lift is necessary at all with the 5100's to use them. That being said, you can leave the AS kit in the front and leave the shock at 0" of lift, or set the 5100's at 2" of lift and take the AS kit out. Anyway you do it,the 5100's will give you a stiffer ride regardless. The HD's (although I have never used them) might not give as stiff of a ride like you want. I took my 5100 off and am using the Rancho adjustable ride series 9000XL (I think) and love them.

Are these installed at the rear and can you get any lift out of them? I want to do a rancho quicklift and rs9000's and was wondering if I need blocks or anything for them.

You will get no lift with these shocks..The adjustment is for ride firmness only

I have read that it is a NO NO to run the adjustable Bilstein's (5100's) at the stock setting (0") with a levelling kit as the Bilsteins provide a bit more downward travel. For that reason, combined with a spacer type levelling kit, the Bilsteins set at the "no lift" setting is not a good idea.

I guess I fail to see your point here. Running the Bilsteins at 0" lift with a leveling kit is no different than running a leveling kit with the stock shocks. If I'm wrong, I stand corrected but I would like to see this in writing from Bilstein.

This is just pure speculation. There is no mechanical reason why you couldnt put a spacer on top of a 5100. Now, Im not sure why you would want to, but I digress.
Putting a spacer on top of a cranked 5100, now thats a different story.
I am going to be adding 5100's, Camburg UCA's, Dual stabilizers, and powder coating everything Mirror Black soon....So, we'll see how the ride changes.

I agree with you as I fail to see the point, 100%. I read it on here, the guy saying it made some sense so I thought it at least worthy of mention for consideration and additional research by the OP.
