hi i have a 98 f150 4x4 with a small lift and 20 inch rims with 275/60/20 tires.My truck shakes bad when around 45 mph. It also does this when slowing down around 45mph and sometimes slower than that. I have replaced inner tie rod ends on both sides and idler control arm and upper control arm / balljoint on driver side. It still shakes i mean its a pretty violent shake sometimes i know the alignment needs checked by a shop but i have it pretty close already. I just cant figure out the problem is there something else i am missing everything else looks ok to me but i am really not the best mechanic . I just feel like there may be something else that needs replaced. Any help would be great thanks

 

is there any clunking? You might have a hub going out

 

well i can hear a popping like clunking sound when i go around sharp curves sounds like it comes from the rear end.

 

how many miles on the truck? ever done a hub yet? what about CV axles?

 

truck has around 147 thousand on it no i have not done a hub yet and how can i tell if its the cv axles. Thanks for the replys guys

 

look for cracks or splits in the boots, and i think they will make more noise in 4wd


jack the truck up and have someone hold at 12 and 6 oclock on the front wheel and shake it up and down and see if you can see the tire move but not the knuckle. If so you have just found your bad hub

ok i will check the cv axles thanks and the tires are balanced they were just done about a month ago

 

does any of the shake translate to the steering wheel? have you replaced your rear gear fluid?

might be time to open that rear end up and inspect the bearings. time for an oil change if it's never been done.

 

yeah u can feel the shake in the steering wheel. It feels like it comes from driver side front wheel

 

Bent rim?

 

May seem stupid, but I'd say double check your wheel weights and make sure none fell off, especially if they're the stick on kind...at least start at the absolute easiest thing possible.

 

check u joints , make sure no weights fell of drive shaft. keep searching. ( drain water out of tires)

 

im still looking for the problem. Have not had much time to look at stuff. When the shake happens it feels like it comes from the driver side front wheel almost always around 40 to 45 mph it feels like the wheel is gonna fall off or something and u can really feel it through the steering wheel.Thanks for the replys everyone.

 

i think i may have found the problem. I think its my pittman arm im not real sure though. It does seem to have some loose play in it and it makes a clicking noise. Like i said im not sure its the problem but im sure it needs replaced.Do u guys think this could be my problem.
