Question Spring Code?

I want to replace my rear springs for many reasons. Most importantly, I hear them squeeking and flexing all the time, and the third (smallest) spring on both sides doesn't stay straight with the other two. I want to lower the truck a couple inches with hangers, but I don't want to reduce my GVWR or GCWR, so I want to use OEM leaf springs.

Anyway, I'm trying to look up the information and compare dealer prices on fordparts.com and there are several springs with different "Spring Codes" listed, each with a letter, i.e. Spring Code A, Spring Code S, etc. Does anyone know where I can figure out which Spring Code would replace my factory leaf springs?

Truck info: 2000 F150 XLT 2WD Sport Supercab Flareside with 5.4L gas engine and 4-wheel ABS disc brakes. If you need any more info, just ask.

It's on your door jam and it will say SPR. Get me the spring code and I can tell you exactly what spring you have. Here's a link for leaf springs to replace your factory ones http://www.generalspringkc.com/index...parent=78&pg=1

KansasJoe, thanks for the info.

I was afraid that might be the answer. I should have mentioned to begin with that someone T-boned me many years ago and the driver side doors had to be replaced. No more sticker. Is this information recorded anywhere else? Would Ford have it on file with my VIN?

These prices seem very reasonable, and I like that the spring capacities are right there. Thanks for the link. Under #Leaves the options are 2/1, 3/1, 3/1 (again) or 4/1. To confirm, the first number is the number of bound springs, plus the "/1" being the unbound spring?

One more question: Say I wanted to upgrade to add capacity. If I were to use one of the packs with a higher spring capacity, would the total "height" of the spring be higher (in other words, would I have add a lowering kit to my truck to get the same ride height back)?

Sorry for the delayed response but when it says 3/1 this means 3 arched together which are usually banded by some sort of clip and then the fat, straight one on the bottom called the overload. Typically if you go with a heavier spring the rear will sit up around an inch or two so if you want it lower you could put a drop shackle on it to achieve your desired ride height.

Yeah, I figured. I guess I'll order and install the springs first and confirm I'm getting the right drop kit for the ride height I want.

Again, thanks for the help.
