Tire size question.

Probably the thousandth time asked but here goes.

I want to put bigger tires on my '99 F150 SuperCab 2wd. I have done some research on this. The specs on my door post say 245-75-16s on 16x7.0 inch tires is what came stock. When i got the truck from my uncle he gave me a extraset of rims/ tires he had (more agressive winter tires). The tires are the stock 245's but the rims on the truck and the extras are either 8 or 8.5 inch instead of the 7s.

I don't plan on going "mudding". But I work in construction and we don't always have driveways. So more width and ground clearance would be nice.

Thanks for any help.
Mike

If you stay at stock height, I'd suggest a set of 265/75-16's on the OEM 16x7 or an aftermarket 16x8 inch wheel (with 4.5 inches of backspacing).

Thanks for the help. My cousin works at a tire shop, I may ask him to "try on" a couple different sizes after work some time. Is there a minimum clearance I should be looking for? Like distance between tire and springs or clearance of stearing lock to lock. What is the max safe tire width for an 7 in rim. If I know the max width we can adjust heighth for clearance.

On a side note: I've always been fond of Toyo tires. Never had any problems in the past. Just wondering if anyone has tried the Open Country M/Ts.

The TOyo MT's are an excellent tire. If you add coilspring spacers, you can fit a 285/75-16. That's as large as I'd go.
