What is this?

i just installed a 2" drop shackle on my 2008 FX2 super crew, the rear driver side frame above and to the inside of the the shackle has a small black weight looking thing that seems to be sitting on rubber gromets on the frame rail, What is that and is it important to keep?

its in this pic behind the shackle

I think it's supposed to be some sort of vibration suppressant.

in order to get the bolt out of the old shackle i had to lift it over the frame rail, that was in the way so i cut the front bolt and i left the back one in just incase it was something important. What should i do? take it out completly?

you can try taking it out, but if you end up with a vibration just put it back in. If it were me i would probably just leave it alone.

Yes it is a vibration dampener. Right after I bought my truck I noticed the bed shaking so they installed that to try to fix it. I don't think they come stock at least on my 05. It worked a little bit no ride difference just didn't look so bad in my mirror.

it dosent touch the bed though, it just sits on the frame rail on 2 rubber gromets.
